Getting your wisdom teeth pulled is painful. Having nothing to do while you are recovering is painfully boring. So let's talk football. Starting with Fantasy football, then followed by Kansas State and my own football team.
This is the first year of fantasy football for me. I am in a church league with my dad and some other men in the church. Because we use CBS sports fantasy football, the scores can get pretty high. I started off the year feeling pretty good about my team. In the draft I selected first (QB) Peyton Manning, then (WR) Randall Cobb, followed by (RB) Trent Richardson, (RB) Ray Rice, (WR) Kendall Wright, (WR) Kelvin Benjamin, (RB) Carlos Hyde, and at some point, (K) Steven Hauschka from Seattle, the Panthers Defense, and (TE) Jace Amaro.
Some of my picks turned out quite well. Denver QB Peyton Manning Has scored at least 27 points every week this year. He has also had a minimum of 2 touchdowns and 237 yards passing in every game this season. Randall Cobb from Green Bay might be the best pick I made in the draft. He had a bad week on week three with only 3 receptions for 29 yards. But besides that one game, he has scored a touchdown in every game and has recently been averaging over 20 yards-per-catch. I picked Trent Richardson believing that he was the primary running back for the Colts; turns out that that honor belongs to Ahmad Bradshaw. Richardson hasn't been overly productive, but he has gotten the job done this year with an average of 13 points per game and two games with 20+ points. Ray Rice was supposed to be a sneaky pick that would pay of for me once he got off his suspension for assaulting his fiancee. For those who don't know, he was essentially kicked out of the NFL after a video of the incident was revealed. Kendall Wright is a receiver out of Tennessee whom I had never heard of, but hey why not? He seems like a good receiver, but he is INCREDIBLY inconsistent. That may be blamed on the quarterback issues that the Titans have been going through. One week I benched him and he scored a season high 29 points, so I played him the next week and he scored exactly one point. The next week I obviously benched him and he scored 18. The best sleeper pick I made in the draft was Kelvin Benjamin, a wide receiver from Carolina. He Started off the season in pro- fashion with 25 points in his first game. He has had two bad weeks with 4 and 3 points, but other than that he has been a solid starter for my team. I picked Carlos Hyde because I had heard his name quite a bit before. I thought he would be a great pick, but then I realized that he was only a rookie and the reason I had heard his name so much was because of how great a running back he had been last year at Ohio State. He is the backup for the veteran Frank Gore of the 49'ers, and I ended up dropping him after a couple weeks. Seattle kicker Steven Hauschka has been a solid kicker for my team besides a three-point performance in week three. Panthers Defense has been interesting this year. I drafted them believing that I had the best defense in the league, and I didn't even draft a backup. After 20 and 17 point performances, I thought I was right. But the next week they only scored 2 and laid an egg in week four. They have picked their performance up in recent weeks thankfully. Jace Amaro is a rookie tight end from Texas Tech who now plays for the Jets. He seemed like he had a high ceiling and he does- he just needs to get more consistent.
My first game was a solid 142-94 win over Mc Gober- A team that has since given up entirely on winning a fantasy football game. The next week I got walloped by The Bearded Theologians 167 to 106, both Carlos Hyde and Jace Amaro only scored one point each. The next week I slipped by Photons 107 to 104 thanks entirely to Kelvin Benjamin and his season high 27 points. The next week was another blowout loss, this time to The Browns 168-124. It was acutally a solid week except for Carlos Hyde and Panthers Defense- who combined for two points. I was embarrassed by my defense so I picked up Dallas Defense out of free agency. I suffered the worst loss of the season week 5 with a 192- 100 loss against Writers Block, a fellow first-year fantasy football owner. I substituted free agent pickups Dallas D, Brandon LaFell, and Lorenzo Taliaferro in for Panthers D, Kendall Wright, and Carlos Hyde, and that made me look stupid as I lost 46 points due to this. The next game was the most unwinnable game by that time. I had to play my dad- the team with the best record in the league. Frustratingly enough, if I had played the right players that week, I could have scored 162. Instead I lost 123 to 109. My luck finally changed week 7 as I played the Earl of Deiksville. I played a near- perfect lineup and won 158-108. My luck quickly faded again when I played Jondy on their best week of the year. I lost that one 165 to 143. Last week I had to play the highest scoring team in the league- Hartburn. I had another incredibly lucky week as he only scored 118 and I squeezed out with a victory with 125 points. My success can be attributed to a recent free agent pickup Denard Robinson. He has scored 16 and 23 these last two weeks.
This week I am playing The Heart Breakers, a team that started the year with four straight losses, but is now on a five game winning streak. They don't have a tight end this week because both of them are on bye. So hopefully I can eek something out this week.
Next post might be about K-State, but who knows.
